About Sandra Hugill |
| |
I was born in
the village of Shap and educated in nearby Penrith, in
the very shadow of the high fells of the English Lake
District. I left home shortly after I started work, but I maintained connections with my family and friends in the area and frequently returned
to The Lake District for short visits at weekends and during holidays. I returned to
Cumbria in 1983, but have since settled just across the Scottish Border in the small town of Lochmaben. |

I started to take an interest
in mountains, and to appreciate their character and moods,
nearly 30 years ago when I was introduced by a friend
to walking in Snowdonia. Like so many before me, it wasn't
long before I was 'hooked', and soon most of my spare
time was taken up walking and exploring the high mountains
of Snowdonia and The Lake District. Inevitably I became
interested in mountains further afield, to The Scottish
Highlands, The European Alps and finally to the major
Himalayan peaks of Nepal, Pakistan, Tibet and Sikkim where
I became a very frequent visitor. |

| I am a self taught
artist, and initially it was my intention to express my love of wild places in the form of Watercolour
Paintings. But having been introduced to painting
in Alkyd
Oils I have since extended my portfolio to include a small range of original
oil paintings. It is my sincere wish that even in this modest gallery of paintings, I have been able to share with my visitors some of the many wonderful and memorable moments that I have had the good fortune to experience amidst some of the most beautiful and evocative mountain scenery to be found anywhere in the world. |
